To prevent the spread of dangerous, and sometimes deadly, infectious diseases, it is important that all students are up to date on their vaccinations before entering school in DC.

Per DC law, schools must follow immunization certification, notification and admission requirements. Although this school immunization policy is for public and public charter schools, the District’s immunization laws also apply to private, parochial and independent schools.

To help schools and families get children the vaccines they need, our partners at DC Health and DC’s Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) created a number of valuable resources, including handouts with the DC School Immunization Requirements and Key Dates for the 2023-24 School Year, a calendar of vaccination opportunities, a PowerPoint slide to help teach providers about the the 2023-24 school vaccine requirements, and much more.
